Making a Difference with RibFest Thursday, July 13, 2017
Music, good friends and great food is what Ribfest is all about. It’s also about making a difference in the community—in our community. For the third year, Cape Breton’s Rotary Clubs have chosen the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County as the charity of choice. That means the proceeds from raffle sales and any donations participants are able to give at the gate will go to this very worthy cause. So, just what are you getting for giving?
In 2015, 961 patients were referred to the palliative care program. On average, there are 275 patients in palliative care at any given time. The Society offers comfort and care to patients and their families through a range of programs, including music therapy, equipment loans, bereavement counselling and financial assistance, to name just a few. The Society is there with peaceful hands of support as patients and their families face end of life situations. The Society is committed to support all existing programs for patients at home and in hospital as well as the An Cala Unit in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Plans are underway to construct a hospice residence that will provide care for ten patients in a home-like setting providing an environment of compassion and care.
For more than 30 years, the Society has supported patients and their families with compassion—enabling individuals to face death with dignity. Ongoing support is needed as needs change and new challenges arise. Your participation in Ribfest helps to secure our future, and our ability to reach out to those who need us. Your participation and your generosity is very much appreciated. Thank you for helping us to build a better community.
